Mestia municipality is a key destination managed by the Svaneti Destination Management Organization ("ShanLand"), which oversees tourism development in the Svaneti region of northwestern Georgia.  Situated in the Greater Caucasus Mountains near the border with Russia, Mestia is noted for its remote location, unique cultural heritage, and distinctive medieval stone towers. The area offers diverse opportunities for mountain tourism, including trekking, skiing, and mountaineering, while also serving as a gateway to the surrounding villages and landscapes of Upper Svaneti, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Svaneti DMO works to enhance tourism infrastructure, support local communities, and ensure that visitor growth is balanced with the preservation of the region’s cultural traditions and fragile mountain environment.
